Switching from Encircle

Encircle closed its free home inventory. Here's where to put yours.

On 17 December 2025 Encircle ended the free Home Inventory app and turned its attention to restoration contractors. If you kept a home inventory there, this page covers what you lost, how to bring a saved export into Remembry, and what to do if you never got around to exporting.

What happened

For about a decade Encircle was the free app insurance articles told people to use, and it was good at the one thing it did: a room-by-room record with photos, exportable as a PDF an adjuster would accept. In late 2025 the company announced it would stop supporting the free consumer product. After 17 December, accounts could no longer log in and the data behind them became inaccessible. The paid Encircle that still exists is built for contractors documenting a claim after a loss, not for a household documenting a home before one.

Before the shutdown, Encircle's web app let you export three things: a PDF report, an Excel spreadsheet of your items, and your photos as a media export. If you did that, you have everything you need. If you didn't, skip to starting fresh; it is quicker than it sounds.

If you exported: bring the spreadsheet in

Remembry imports a CSV file and matches the columns by their headings, so an Encircle spreadsheet needs one step of preparation.

  1. Open the Excel export in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets and save it as CSV (File → Save As, or Download → Comma-separated values).
  2. Check the first row has headings. Columns named for the item, the room, the quantity, a price or value, and any notes or description are recognised; a barcode column is too. Headings don't need to be exact — "Item Name", "Room", "Value" all work.
  3. Install Remembry and sign in. Scan one thing first — photograph anything with the AI scanner. That opens your move-in week, which matters in the next step.
  4. Go to Settings → Import inventory (CSV), pick the file, and confirm. You'll see how many items were found and how many rooms; rooms are created for you.

Two honest limits. Photos don't come across in a CSV — Encircle's media export is a folder of pictures with no link back to the rows — so you'll re-photograph the things that matter, which the scanner makes quick. And the free plan holds 100 items. During your move-in week that cap is lifted, so a full export imports whole if you scan first and import within seven days; adding beyond 100 after the week needs Premium.

If you didn't export: starting fresh is faster than it was

Nine months on, most people who kept an Encircle inventory no longer have it. The good news is that rebuilding one is not the weekend it used to be. Remembry's free plan includes a move-in week: from your first scan, seven days and 150 AI photo scans to catalogue a home.

After the week, the free plan continues with 100 items and 20 AI scans a month, which covers the ordinary pace of a home. Nothing you added is taken away.

What Encircle did that Remembry does too, and what it didn't

What you hadIn Remembry
Room-by-room inventory with photosYes — rooms, containers and boxes, with up to five photos per item and a receipt.
A PDF an adjuster acceptsYes — an insurance-ready schedule of your whole home with photos and values (Premium), and a single ownership record for one valuable item with its serial, receipt and a tamper-evident fingerprint.
Export your dataYes, free, forever — CSV and a full ZIP backup with photos. The lesson of Encircle is that this has to be true.
FreeYes — 100 items and 20 AI scans a month, plus the move-in week.
AI that names things from a photoYes. Encircle didn't; you typed.
Reminders before a warranty or subscription endsYes — Upkeep, one list of every date your home owes you, free.
Lend the ladder instead of buying a second oneYes — to friends or neighbours, with a QR handoff and a condition photo on both ends.
Video walkthroughYes — a two-minute walkthrough recorded on each room, the method every insurance guide recommends (Premium).

Where your data lives. Remembry is not on-device. Photos and your inventory are stored on Google's Firebase and synced so a household can share one inventory; AI recognition runs on our servers. It isn't sold, isn't used for advertising, and the model provider doesn't train on it. You can export everything at any time, and deleting your account deletes it. Items you seal in the vault are encrypted on your phone before they are stored; we cannot read them.

Questions people ask

My Encircle export has rooms as separate sheets, not a column.
Save each sheet as its own CSV and import them one at a time, or add a "Room" column and fill it before saving. Rows with no item name are skipped and reported, so nothing imports silently.
Will my Encircle values carry over?
A price or value column imports as the purchase price. Remembry doesn't guess values — for most things you enter them, for records it uses Discogs market data, and a photographed receipt records what you paid.
Can I share it with the people I live with?
Yes — a home can have several members, each seeing the same inventory, with items you mark private hidden from the others.
Is there a web version?
Yes — sign in at remembry.xyz/home from any browser, with the same inventory as the phone.
