Switching from Centriq

Centriq is gone. Here's what does the nameplate trick now.

Centriq closed on 31 January 2025. Its idea — photograph the appliance's rating plate and let the app work out the rest — was right, and it is the way Remembry works too. This page says what carries over, what doesn't yet, and how to bring in the CSV if you exported one.

What Centriq did, and what you lost

You photographed the nameplate on a dishwasher or a furnace; Centriq read the model and serial, fetched the owner's manual, tracked the warranty, watched for recalls and pointed you at parts. Home inspectors and agents handed it to buyers as a record of the house. When it shut, users had a few weeks to export a CSV of their items — names, descriptions, model and serial numbers, purchase dates, locations and notes — while photos, manuals and receipts had to be saved one at a time. After the deadline, nothing was recoverable.

What carries over

CentriqRemembry
Photograph the nameplateYes. Brand, model and serial are read off the plate — or off the sticker on a bike frame, a camera body or a laptop. The serial is treated as the one field that must be right, because a claim, a warranty and a police report are all filed against it.
Warranty trackingYes, and it reminds you before cover ends. A warranty can be set on anything, not only appliances.
MaintenanceYes. A service interval per appliance, a Serviced button that rolls the date forward and keeps a history, filter changes, and a forecast of what falls due in the year ahead.
A record of the home for a buyerYes. The home fact sheet lists the systems and appliances that stay with the house, with install dates and service records and no serial numbers on the page.
Photos, receipts, documents on the itemYes — up to five photos and a receipt per item, and a receipt photo is read for what you paid.
Export your dataYes, free forever — CSV and a full ZIP with photos. Centriq is the reason this has to be true.
Fetch the owner's manualYes. Once the brand and model are on the item, a Find manual button runs the search for you.
Recall alertsPartly. A Check recalls button on the item searches for recalls on its brand and model. Nothing watches for new ones yet.
Parts sourcingNo.

If you exported a CSV

  1. Install Remembry and sign in. Scan one thing first with the AI scanner: that opens your move-in week, which lifts the free plan's 100-item cap for seven days so a whole export fits.
  2. Go to Settings → Import inventory (CSV) and pick the file. Item names, locations (as rooms), brand, model number, serial number, purchase date and notes are recognised by their headings. The purchase date goes to the first line of the notes, since there is no separate field for it.
  3. Confirm. You'll see the count and the rooms it will create.

Photos don't import. Centriq's CSV never had them, so for anything that matters, photograph the nameplate again in Remembry — it takes a few seconds and reads the serial back to you to check.

If you didn't export

Twenty months on, most former Centriq users don't have the file. The rebuild is quicker than the first time: walk the house with the scanner, photograph each rating plate, and the model and serial are typed for you. The move-in week gives you 150 scans to do it in; afterwards the free plan continues with 100 items and 20 scans a month.

Where your data lives. Remembry is not on-device. Photos and your inventory are stored on Google's Firebase and synced so a household can share one inventory; AI recognition runs on our servers. Nothing is sold or used for advertising, the model provider doesn't train on it, and you can export or delete everything whenever you like. Items you seal in the vault are encrypted on your phone before they are stored; we cannot read them.

Questions people ask

Does it read the serial off an engraved or laser-etched plate?
Usually. It is the hardest text in the photo and the app knows it, so it shows you what it read and asks you to check. Glare and angle are the enemies; a second photo square-on fixes most misses.
Can my home inspector or agent use it?
The home fact sheet is made for handing over at a sale. A shared home can have several members if you want them in the inventory itself.
